Chairman's Report

This has been an exciting year for Riverside Inverclyde. Against a backdrop of a continued economic recession, ri has made progress across all of its seven key geographies and completed the first Business Plan period 2007 – 2011.

Key highlights during 2010/11, included the completion of the new access road at James Watt Dock heralding the way for the Tall Ships event in July 2011. This, together with a series of public realm improvements at James Watt Dock, set the scene for an event that marked Inverclyde out as a must-visit destination during 2011. Other highlights have included the completion of a new 64-place private nursery at Riverside Business Park and the conversion of the Bungalow building to provide cafe facilities for the businesses operating at Riverside Business Park. The letting of ri’s flagship offices continued to move apace with recent tenants including Goltens, Childcare Training Solutions and Cigna. It was fully let by August 2011.

Four years on from my appointment as chairman, I continue to be impressed by the progress being made by the ri team. There are many signs along the A8 corridor of infrastructure being put in place and physical improvements continue being made. The success of ri is achieved by working closely with Inverclyde Council, Scottish Enterprise, the Scottish Government and the private sector, most notably Clydeport/Peel. ri will continue to build on its current successes for the benefit of Inverclyde’s residential and business communities. Public spending will continue to be constrained so ri is committed to working hard with all partners to promote the importance of Inverclyde to the economy of Scotland in securing funding for our second phase Business Plan.
