The King George VI Steering Group

The King George VI (KGVI) Steering Group was set up as a sub-group of the Port Glasgow Town Centre Regeneration Forum in order to bring forward the restoration of the KGVI building for community use.

Inverclyde Council advised that it has committed £1M to refurbishing the KGVI building; the former town hall and one of the oldest buildings at Port Glasgow at No 9 and 11 King Street. This was brought to the attention of the Port Glasgow Town Centre Regeneration Forum as the council sought a business plan to enable applications to be made for additional funds to support the restoration and refurbishment of the building

The KGVI Steering Group formed as a result of the Community Associations' desire to utilise this building as a heritage/visitor centre and community facility. The KGVI Steering Group comprises of Inverclyde Council and ri officers, community representatives and Masonic Lodge representatives as owners of part of the building.

The group has met on various occasions to discuss how to move the project forward.

This project is currently at a very early stage, but more will be published on this page when information becomes available.
