Riverside Inverclyde and its partners secure a further £900,000 funding from the Scottish Government's Town Centre Regeneration Fund

Following the submission by Riverside Inverclyde (ri), on behalf of partners in Inverclyde, of two bids for projects in Port Glasgow and Gourock, the Scottish Government has today confirmed that a grant of £900,000 is to be made to ri. £600,000 for Port Glasgow and £300,000 for Gourock. This takes the total funding received by Riverside Inverclyde from the Regeneration Fund to £2.2M.

Bill Nicol, Chief Executive, Riverside Inverclyde said “I am delighted that the Government has provided this funding.  This will allow the ri team and partner organisations to accelerate much needed activity in both Gourock and Port Glasgow.”

Alf Young, Chairman of Riverside Inverclyde commented “we appreciate the additional funding from the Scottish Government.  This is further recognition of Riverside Inverclyde and its ability to deliver high quality projects quickly.  The money represents an opportunity for ri and its partners to progress a number of environmental improvements in Port Glasgow and Gourock as is currently happening in Greenock.”

Convener of Regeneration Councillor Jim Clocherty said: “This is fantastic news for Gourock and Port Glasgow and an early Christmas present for Inverclyde. Although investing heavily in our schools and leisure facilities we recognise that our town centres are the key to making Inverclyde the kind of place people want to live and work in and this funding will go a long way to helping us improve their attractiveness and accessibility.”

Councillor Clocherty added: “We are already starting to see a difference in Greenock where work improving the town centre is underway. These grants really will go a long way to helping us transform our town centre and provide opportunities for local people and businesses in Inverclyde.

The funding will complement investment already being made by Riverside Inverclyde in sites along the waterfront and will focus on improving the attractiveness and accessibility of Port Glasgow and Gourock, allowing a number of projects to be progressed within the year.  Key sites will be substantially improved and where possible assistance will be made available to businesses looking to expand and move into the town centre.
