HERITAGE LOTTERY CHIEF MEETS INVERCLYDE OFFICIALS

On the day that the National Lottery celebrated its 15th Birthday and the contribution it has been able to make to various community projects across the UK, Riverside Inverclyde and Inverclyde Council were delighted to use the day to mark ongoing dialogue with the Heritage Lottery Fund, which it is hoped will result in additional resources being secured for future Inverclyde projects.

Colin McLean, Head of Heritage Lottery Fund Scotland said “I am delighted to say that the Heritage Lottery Fund has, in the last fifteen years, invested over £1/2 billion in imaginative projects across Scotland, helping people to discover, explore, enjoy and preserve their history. Investing in heritage has a real impact on modern community life”.
Following discussions with David Cairns, MP, Bill Nicol, CEO of ri and Aubrey Fawcett, Corporate Director, Regeneration and Resources, Inverclyde Council met with Colin to present the case for heritage funding for a range of projects across the area.  David is an advocate of protecting Inverclyde's industrial heritage for future generations and is keen to see the sympathetic transformation of the Sugar Warehouse and the preservation of the Scott's Dry Dock as part of the wider regeneration agenda.

David said “giving much-loved but run-down historical assets a new lease of life can attract other funding, create jobs, provide education and attract tourism to help build a sustainable community in Inverclyde”.

Stephen McCabe, Leader of Inverclyde Council said “I am delighted that the Council and ri are working in close partnership to advance bids to the heritage lottery fund.  This is a further demonstration of effective close collaborative working with local and national partners for the wider benefit of the Inverclyde area.”

Bill Nicol, CEO of ri, thanked Colin McLean for his support and added that “ri is committed to transforming the waterfronts in Inverclyde in a way which preserves and celebrates the heritage that has given the area its identity. ri and Inverclyde Council have a number of projects currently under development which can contribute to this”.
