A new phase beckons for Inverclyde Construction Forum (ICF)
Inverclyde Construction Forum was set up in September 2008 by Riverside Inverclyde, Inverclyde Council and River Clyde Homes working in partnership. Since then, it has hosted numerous breakfast briefings and training sessions all designed to be of benefit to those local companies involved in the construction and construction-related industry. Having established itself as part of the fabric of the local business community, Inverclyde Construction Forum is now ready to develop into the next phase of working together for the benefit of its members and the Inverclyde economy.Working with the Scottish Construction Industry Plan 2007 – 2012 to achieve a step change in the performance of the Industry, the Forum facilitates the supporting discussion and networking. ICF, through its meetings, seminars and training events, supports the Industry Plan's 4 Strategic Themes of Positioning, Procurement, People and Planet. Within the local context , ICF additionally aims to encourage, promote and enhance the capabilities of, and opportunities for, its members, stimulating economic growth in the area, encouraging local employment potential and enabling a legacy of an improved and sustainable local construction sector.
The developing national grouping of the various Local Construction Forums in places such as Forth Valley, Fife, Aberdeen, Borders, Edinburgh and South of Scotland will provide further advantages to Inverclyde Construction Forum as we work closer and learn from more mature and longer established Forums.
To drive towards this next phase of Inverclyde Construction Forum, an Interim Steering Committee has been co-opted (pending nominations and elections for 2010 at an AGM) to specifically capture the broad range of interests within Inverclyde : 3 places to the main projects' sponsors (Riverside Inverclyde, River Clyde Homes and Inverclyde Council) 2 places to facilitator agencies of James Watt College and Greenock Chamber of Commerce, and 3 (one remaining open) places from the construction industry ( one from a company of more than 15 employees, one of less than 15 employees and a industry profession. This has resulted in an enthusiastic and skilled Interim Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of Ian Macnaughton of W. H. Kirkwood Ltd to revitalise Inverclyde Construction Forum, leading to an AGM on Friday 22nd January at 8:30am.
