Site Preparation Works Near Completion
Work to prepare an Inverclyde site with the potential to create around 300 new jobs is nearing completion.
Regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde has spent in excess of £800,000 on the Kelburn Business Park in Port Glasgow to ensure development-ready industrial plots to attract private investment to the area.
ri Chief Executive Bill Nicol said: “I am delighted to be here with Councillor Stephen McCabe and Councillor Jim Clocherty today to see progress which has been made on the servicing and platforming of Kelburn Business Park. This is an important milestone for ri – it means that we are now on site on all 7 priority sites, with £48M having been approved and on site in three years. Kelburn will provide the opportunity to meet emerging business needs and will play a key role in the Inverclyde proposition to attract Energy and Renewable companies and footloose private investment.”
Kelburn Business Park is the most easterly situated development area within Inverclyde and has excellent transport links with the adjoining A8, providing access to the M8 motorway and Glasgow airport. Nearby Woodhall station is on the Glasgow to Greenock railway line.
Inverclyde Council Leader Councillor Stephen McCabe said: “Kelburn has the potential to be one of the few effective industrial sites available in Inverclyde to allow eligible companies to apply for Regional Selective Assistance funding and could support the creation of more than 300 new jobs. Given the site's excellent transport links, sitting right alongside the A8, I am sure companies will be interested in locating here.”
The works carried out at Kelburn include cutting and filling new earthworks and remodelling the ground profile. A new access road carrying ducts for statutory services along with a footpath and service diversions have been provided to open up the entire business park area and make it available for inward investment or possible relocations from the waterfront area.
Regeneration Convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: “The momentum for change across Inverclyde is really starting to build. Riverside Inverclyde is starting to deliver on a range of projects and we recently increased its funding by £500,000 for 2010/2011 to help keep that momentum going. Kelburn Business Park now has huge potential has to attract inward investment and much needed employment opportunities to Inverclyde”
