Riverside Inverclyde supports The Recruit 2008
Riverside Inverclyde is to lend its support to The Recruit 2008, an innovative personal development programme funded by Determined to Succeed and managed by Enterprise Development, Inverclyde Council Education Services which aims to give young people insight into the world of business and to help young people develop self-confidence, self-reliance and ambition to achieve their goals – in work and in life.
Open to all S5 and S6 (16 – 18 years) school pupils in Inverclyde, pupils are invited to compete in a challenge, for a reward. The challenge being the completion of an extra curricular business based programme running typically from April – August, with the reward of an £18,000 a year job.
Over four weeks, 22 pupils will be coached and set business challenges designed to test pupils' potential in sales, management and leadership. Participants this year will benefit from Speaker sessions from entrepreneurs and business leaders such as Charan Gill, Entrepreneurial Exchange and Michelle Mone, MJM International. Participants will also receive presentations and challenges set by key local
businesses and players including T-Mobile, IBM and James Watt College.
On 27 July, Riverside Inverclyde's Jacqui Mackenzie will give the recruits an overview of ri's vision for Inverclyde and set the recruits the following challenge:
"As young people, where do you think Riverside Inverclyde should be in 10 years?
Your task is to consider the challenges facing Inverclyde, and present your ideas on how funds should be invested into the waterfront to address these issues.
To understand what constitutes a successful waterfront development, and what you think you may or may not be desirable in Inverclyde, you may wish to research other UK/European waterfront developments."
Jacqui Mackenzie commented: “Whilst the primary focus of Riverside Inverclyde is to ensure the physical regeneration of the Waterfront, its ambitions go far beyond this and it aims, through direct and partnership interventions to ensure the broader economic and social regeneration of the area.
Support for The Recruit is in line with ri's commitment to raising aspirations; enhancing Business Skills/Learning opportunities; and creating new capacity and stimulating increased earning potential and entrepreneurial endeavour within Inverclyde and the people of Inverclyde”. 27 July 2008
