ri Launches Renewables Marketing Brochure
A new brochure detailing Inverclyde's proposition is now available upon request from Riverside Inverclyde which highlights the strength of the Inverclyde proposition for inward investment and for local supply chain companies to expand into this growth industry. The brochure features specific opportunities with the sites and facilities at Inchgreen, Greenock Ocean Terminal, Fergusons and Kelburn.
The marketing brochure is a result of the ri team working with Inverclyde Council, Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Development International, the Scottish Government and the private sector since the latter half of 2009 and has established a strong Inverclyde Renewables Alliance Group to ensure that local opportunities are maximised. This group represents a breadth of expertise, experience and influence within the Offshore Renewables sector. Private sector partners at present include Clydeport and the Ferguson Group both of whom have been operating in Inverclyde for many years, Jenda Energy who relocated from Aberdeen to Inverclyde last year, 2020 Renewables who are also in the Clyde View office suites in Pottery Street, major Offshore developer Mainstream Renewable Power and the award winning Subocean Group. The Alliance has also developed strong links to the west of Scotland offshore developers, SSE Renewables and Scottish Power Renewables along with other Tier 1 and 2 suppliers and organisations.
At a time when the Scottish Government is outlining its plans to promote the increased use of renewable energy sources, Riverside Inverclyde and its partners are delighted that their current efforts to create a west coast proposition specifically to attract renewable companies to the area has been reflected in the National Renewables Investment Plan for Scotland launched in February. Riverside Inverclyde is seeking to devise economic development interventions to assist emerging growth sectors such as energy and renewable.
Inverclyde is well-suited to encourage the location of renewable energy companies. It boasts excellent existing facilities, the capacity to double quay lengths and access to a workforce retrained from the technical, professional and artisan skills of the legacy shipbuilding and IT industries that made Inverclyde the export capital of Scotland. Whether in Operations/ Maintenance for Offshore Wind, Wave and Tidal manufacturing or sub-assembly, consultancy and project management or Applied Research and Development and testing capabilities for all offshore/marine renewables Inverclyde can meet the needs of renewable companies.
ri CEO, Bill Nicol confirmed that “the renewables industry expansion from the North of Scotland has begun and ri and its partners are working to ensure that Inverclyde is in a strong position to support this expansion. This can benefit all of Inverclyde communities”. Early evidence of the sector developing in Inverclyde was the completion of the UK's largest carousel barge in April by Fergusons in a £3.2M barge conversion contract from Subocean Group.
