New Art Exhibition at ri's Ladyburn Business Centre, Pottery Street - 24 July - 6 August 2010
Following the extensive refurbishment and opening of Ladyburn Business Centre at Pottery Street by Riverside Inverclyde (ri) in November 2009, ri is delighted to announce a forthcoming art exhibition in the bespoke gallery space within the building – The Riverside Inverclyde Gallery or RIG (www.rig-art.co.uk).
As part of the refurbishment of the building 5 artist studios were created on the ground floor ranging in size from 420 – 872 sq ft. First to lease a space was Artysta Fine Art (www.artystafineart.co.uk) and having settled into their new location and established themselves as both art producers and tutors within the Pottery St Studio. Artysta are now taking on a new challenge in partnership with ri. They have recently assumed the management and promotion of the gallery space on the first floor of the Ladyburn building and will be hosting a minimum of four different contemporary art exhibitions over the next twelve months.
The first event, named Figuration, will be an exhibition of figurative drawing, painting and sculpture and will include work from the artists who attend the Pottery St studio Life Class.
This exhibition will run from Saturday 24 July until Friday 6 August and will be open to the public between 10.00am and 5.00pm each day.
The long term aim of RIG is to provide a contemporary arts space supporting artists and the community and those currently involved in the project can provide fine art training, support and exhibition opportunities the visual arts.
ri CEO, Bill Nicol, welcomed this latest partnership venture and stated “I am sure that RIG will become a focal point for artistic endeavour in Inverclyde. The area has a proud tradition in the creative arts and this gallery provides the ideal environment for creativity and excellence."Regeneration Convener Councillor Jim Clocherty said: "It is so important that we support the arts. Regenerating Inverclyde is not just about new buildings and improved town centres, we need to give people the opportunity to express themselves and to be creative to enhance and improve their quality of life. Projects such as RIG will give local people the chance to get involved."
Jason Orr from Artysta commented, “We have a vision for RIG that this will become a visual arts centre for contemporary art. We want to bring established and emerging artists, students and the community together in one vibrant contemporary art venue in Inverclyde. This is an exciting opportunity. We are looking at all sponsorship and funding opportunities to make this happen.”
