Rennie Mackintosh School Of Art Key Sells For £32,000

A key designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh to open Glasgow School of Art has sold for £32,000 to help raise funds for the restoration of the fire-damaged institution. It was bought by Sir Ludo Shaw Stewart, owner of the Ardgowan Estate near Inverkip, Inverclyde where it will go on show at Ardgowan House.

New Nightclub To Open In Greenock

A new nightclub is set to open in Greenock creating around 30 jobs. Local businessman David Carroll is poised to resurrect the former Cafe Roslin building later this year and plans to recruit 25-35 staff.

First Cruise Ship Arrives In Greenock

The first large cruise ship of the 2018 season arrived in Greenock this week. Magellan, the 1,250-guest Cruise & Maritime Voyages vessel arrived from St Peter Port in Guernsey and left for Tobermory.

Two Taste Inverclyde Indian restaurants are in the running for prizes at the Scottish Curry Awards. Priyas Palace in Greenock is up for the top eaterie in the south west of the country while the Taj Mahal in Gourock is a finalist in the 'best loved restaurant' category. Nominations flooded in from across the country, say organisers, and the awards bash is set to take place on Monday 16 April at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.

Police Volunteer Group For Inverclyde Young People Is Launched

Inverclyde's new Police Scotland Youth Volunteers (PSYV) group was launched at an event at the Beacon Arts Centre, Greenock. Twenty-four newly-recruited young people from various secondary schools in Inverclyde will be trained as youth volunteers in the area over the coming months.

The countdown is on to the opening of Gourock's iconic outdoor pool for 2018. Swimmers only have to wait another 21 days to take the plunge at the famous open air saltwater pool.

More than 25 local care workers have been put on a 30-day notice period. The Trust Care Services programme, which is owned by Inverclyde Community Development Trust, is closing down - leaving 26 people without jobs.

Activists calling for urgent investment in an historic Inverclyde maritime site have handed over a 3,000-strong petition to Inverclyde Council. Members of the Campaign to Save Inchgreen Dry Dock group called on the local authority to lend their support to their efforts as they presented the document at the Municipal Buildings on Tuesday.

Where Is BBC Agatha Christie Drama Ordeal By Innocence Filmed?

BBC1’s Ordeal by Innocence was filmed at Ardgowan Estate on the Scottish coast near Glasgow, which becomes the Sunny Point mansion from the novel. The exterior is draped in purple wisteria and surrounded by gorgeous gardens, and the interior is dominated by a sweeping staircase. It seems the perfect setting for the dark murder mystery about to unfold.
