Inverclyde Council Agrees 2018-19 Budget

Inverclyde Council has agreed its budget for the coming financial year. The proposals put forward by the labour, independent, conservative and liberal democrat groups of the council aimed to plug a funding gap of just over £3m.  The council agreed to over £3m of savings and charges increases and to nearly £6m of investments in services.

McGill’s Bus Services Face Series Of Changes

A raft of changes come into effect across the Inverclyde bus network next week. Greenock-based operator McGill’s has announced that a variety of services are being altered from next Monday. Some are being cut back while others are being extended to make routes ‘sustainable’.

£700k For Better Wifi In Inverclyde Schools

Primary schools across Inverclyde are to get improved wifi at a cost of £700,000. All schools in Inverclyde have wifi already, but primaries are unable to use ‘non supported devices’ such as tablets and Kindles because they cannot access the network.

Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards Winners Announced At Gala Dinner

Over 200 local sports players, their supporters plus officials and sponsors met in the Greenock Town Hall to applaud the finalists and winners of nine categories of sports Awards. The event was compered expertly once again Jean Johansson of BBC’s The One Show and Mike McLean from Your Radio

Western Ferries Celebrate The Missing Link

Western Ferries’ new linkspan was put into operation for the first time with a special ceremony in Gourock to mark the investment. The ferry operator welcomed the first passengers to use the structure, which was built by Ferguson Marine Engineering.

Black Tie Event Raised Over £40k For Ardgowan Hospice

A sell-out masquerade ball unmasked the generous side of partygoers and raised over £40,000 for Ardgowan Hospice. The ball took place in Greenock Town Hall and was hosted by radio presenter Suzie McGuire. The black tie dinner dance featured entertainment from The Bright Side and a magician and it was sponsored by Specsavers in Greenock.

Record Number of Cruise Ship Visitors Set For Greenock

Record number of cruise ship visitors set a record number of cruise ship passengers will arrive in Greenock during 2018. More than 120,000 people are expected at the Ocean Terminal between now and November in what will be the busiest year to date.

New Jobs Joy As Port Glasgow Firm Announces Expansion

A leading outdoor clothing and equipment company based in Port Glasgow has taken on 14 new staff. AMG Group, which owns brands including Vango and Blacks of Greenock has increased its workforce by 15 per cent.

Around 200 modern apprenticeships are up for grabs in Inverclyde. More than 30 firms and employers had stalls at a careers event in Greenock Town Hall which kickstarted a big recruitment drive.

Greenock College Graduate's Show Is Signed Up By Amazon Prime

A Sci-fi TV show created by a Greenock college graduate has been picked up by streaming giants Amazon Prime. Writer and producer Fraser Coull, 33, launched supernatural police thriller Cops and Monsters in 2014 and the first series is now available to watch across the UK and in the US.
