Greenock’s new £20million health and care centre is taking shape on the site of the former Wellington Academy. The building is due to be completed by September 2020 and will replace a number of facilities.

£2.3 Million Fundraising Drive To Save The Waverley

Waverley wellwishers have set sail on the most important voyage of the world famous paddle steamer's life — a £2.3 million fundraising drive to save her. Throngs of supporters gathered to launch an appeal to pay for what has been described as the maritime equivalent of open heart surgery on the laid up 73-year-old icon.

Planners Sink Housing Bid For Former Shipyard Site In Port Glasgow

A second attempt to get approval for housing on an empty piece of ground beside the Clyde at Kingston, Port Glasgow has failed. Briar Homes wanted planning permission in principle for residential development on former shipyard land off Lithgow Way, near the playpark.

Ri Head Of Business Appointed Chair of Developing the Young Workforce West Region

Developing the Young Workforce West (DYW) regional group has appointed Andrew Bowman as its new Chairperson. Mr Bowman, who joined the DYW West Board of Directors in January 2019, will take up his role of Chair immediately replacing former Chair, SSE’s Head of Performance Victor Stirling.

Time is running out for a historic Clyde-built windjammer trapped in Honolulu Harbour. The Falls of Clyde was built in Port Glasgow in 1878 but is now languishing abroad and being stripped of supplies with fears she is facing dismantlement.

Audit Scotland Report Published On Ferry Services Has Been Slammed As A Public Failure

An Audit Scotland report published prior to a decision by transport chiefs to keep heavily criticised boats on the Gourock -Dunoon route has been slammed as a public failure. The scrutiny body quoted figures of up to £30 million per vessel to replace the foot passenger-only craft currently operating on the crossing.

Golden Caskets 'Millions' Inspired Oor Wullie Sculpture Unveiled In Glasgow

Golden Casket is celebrating the launch of its Oor Wullie statue in Argyll Street in Glasgow, one of 200 that have been placed around Scotland for the newest ARCHIE foundation trail. The Millions themed sculpture has been placed outside of the Debenhams store on Argyll Street in Glasgow, with its design provided by the artist, Lissie Hollis.

Film-maker Celebrating Being Shortlisted For Best Short Film For 'Catman's Greenock'

A Film-maker is in the frame for an honour at the Edinburgh International Film Festival for his production based on mysterious Greenock character Catman. James Kearnie Beaton, 46, is celebrating being shortlisted for best short film for 'Catman's Greenock'.

Construction Starts On Flats Development At Old School Site

Work has started on a development of flats on the site of the former Highlanders' Academy in Greenock. Housing association Sanctuary Group is building 44 flats on the land at the corner of Mount Pleasant Street.

Sun Shines On The Gourock Garden Party

The sun shone on Gourock Garden Party and brought out 1,000 people to the community get-together. There was a wide variety of stalls in the walled garden, face painting, a visit from Owl Magic and a wood turning demonstration.

Local Ballet School Marks 10 Years Of Classical Ballet In Inverclyde

Elite Academy of Dance is celebrating its tenth anniversary with sell-out shows over the weekend. Founded in 2009, Inverclyde’s only dedicated Royal Academy of Dance school of classical ballet caters for students from age two through to those in their 80s.

Aulds' melt in the mouth biscuit with a jammy centre and chocolate icing topped with fudge, Maltesers and Flake tantalised tastebuds at the Scottish Baker of the Year product judging day. After a Scotland-wide vote and a Masterchef-style taste test, expert judges gave the biscuit a fantastic regional silver award

Planners To Decide If Beauty Salon Can Keep Operating In Greenock West End Garden

A Greenock beauty therapist wants permission from planners to continue using an upgraded outhouse at her B-listed West End property as a treatment room. Ainsley Williamson, who ran the successful Bliss Beauty salon in Gourock with her sister, has applied for a change-of-use for the premises at a villa fronting Eldon Street and The Esplanade in Greenock.

Talented young musicians from Inverclyde and beyond hit the right note at Riverside Youth Band’s third annual awards night. Band members were joined by parents and supporters for the presentation in St John’s Church hall, Port Glasgow, before dancing the night away to local function band Flung Aboot.

Browns in Nicholson Street had been up for sale for over a year, but suddenly closed its doors on Friday. A sign was put outside the cafe thanking people for their custom.

Specsavers Bubble Rush Effort Benefits Greenock Hospice

A tean from Greenock opticians Specsavers braved a sea of bubbles to complete a five-kilometre fun run in aid of Ardgowan Hospice. They raised nearly £200 by taking part in the event at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow.
