Port Glasgow Shipyard Joins Fight To Win £1bn Contract

Ferguson Marine shipyard of Port Glasgow has joined a team bidding for the £1.25 billion contract to build the UK’s new frigates. Engineering giant Babcock International will lead a consortium which wants to construct the Ministry of Defence’s Type 31e light warships.

Top Awards For Inverclyde College

West College Scotland has won two first prizes at a ceremony regarded as the Oscars of Scottish further education. It was named Innovative College 2017, and also triumphed in the Health-Promoting College category in the College Development Network awards.

Inverclyde Council is set to start a budget consultation with residents on savings proposals. The consultation starts on Monday 15 January 2018 and during the first week residents will have the chance to visit one of five drop-in sessions to find out more and have their say.

Inverclyde Make-Up Students Land Roles On Top TV Shows Outlander And River City

Make-up maestros from the college in Inverclyde have impressed industry bosses after working on a hit TV show. The talented students, who are on the HND Make-up Artistry course at West College Scotland's Finnart Street campus, worked on blockbuster time travelling series Outlander.

A hi-tech £80,000 Express Ladies Fitness studio has opened at Greenock's Waterfront Leisure Centre. It is designed for women who are new to the gym or who are self-conscious when exercising.

Inverclyde Roads Lined Up For Surface Improvements

 A £240,000 programme of carriageway surface improvements is being proposed for 19 roads in Greenock and Port Glasgow. Inverclyde Council officials have drawn up a list of streets they say should get Microasphalt protective treatment during the 12 months from the start of April.

Approval Given For Gas-Fired Electricity Generating Facility

Inverclyde Planning Board have approved construction of a small-scale gas-fired energy reserve facility in countryside near Greenock. It will be built on land east of the B788 Kilmacolm Road, next to Devol Moor Substation, by 2020 Renewables and will have capacity to generate up to 19.9 megawatts of electricity.

Free Bike Maintenance Classes In Port Glasgow

Active travel project Community Tracks is running free basic bike maintenance classes in Port Glasgow this month. They take place at Inverclyde Community Development Trust's business and training centre at 48 Muirshiel Road, from 7 to 9pm on Thursdays 11, 18 and 25 January.

West College Scotland is engaging with Inverclyde businesses to help build a modern workforce by launching the West of Scotland Skills Survey. The regional employer skills survey is the first of its kind to be conducted by a Scottish college or university.

Beacon Arts Centre Celebrates 5th Anniversary

Two little girls who were born on the same day that the Beacon opened are joining in the theatre’s fifth birthday celebrations. Olivia Crichton and Katherine Forbes both celebrate their fifth birthdays on Saturday, which is also the fifth anniversary of the £10 million waterfront theatre.
