Inverclyde Sports Personality Awards recognise local sporting talent across a range of sports

It was another electric night at the Inverclyde Sports Personality awards in the Greenock Town Hall on Friday evening 12th May where awards were made covering a range of sports including swimming, tennis, football, backhold wrestling, karate and netball.
Compered expertly by TV presenter Jean Johansson and aided by Your Radios Mike McLean, another highlight of the evening was a short talk from a previous winner of the Young Volunteer of the Year award James Barbour, showing how important sport can be in shaping lives and increasing confidence.

BBC football pundit Chick Young was on hand to keep the audience in laughter while the Greenock Rock choir performed a number of songs to get feet tapping and hands clapping. The say that sport is magic and there was also a magician in the mix as well delighting the various table audiences through the early part of the proceedings.
For the organisers, Chris Jewell said, This was another great night with worthy winners, a great atmosphere and good food, all working together to recognise and acknowledge the place sport has in our lives but also the wealth of sporting talent locally. We are very grateful to our sponsors and those who organise these awards which takes a fair bit of hard work to bring about.
The net proceeds of the awards evening will be returned to the community by providing grants available of aspiring local athletes across all sports in their aim of breaking through into national and international competitions. The full list of award winners is;

Disabled Sports Personality of the Year - Isaac Dunning, Swimming

School Team of the Year - Notre Dame High School S1 Netball Team
Club of the Year - St Andrews Boys Club, Football
Coach of the Year - Jim Boyland, Multi-sports
Young Volunteer of the Year - Elisha Hope, Multi-sports
Adult Volunteer of the Year - Bill Haggerty, Karate.
